Marquita Little Numan

Episode Summary

Marquita Little Numan became a family counselor after graduating from Hendrix College. After seeing many clients continuously struggle, Marquita realized systemic change was essential. This fueled her to find a different way to make an impact, so she enrolled in the Clinton School of Public Service to understand how to ignite long-term change through advocacy, policy and philanthropy. Now, as the senior policy director at the Alliance for Early Success, Marquita uses her education and determination to make a difference. The Alliance for Early Success works with organizations across the country to advance policy surrounding early childhood, impacting children and families. In her position, Marquita manages a portfolio of grants, collaborates with advocacy organizations at state and national levels, and advises states and organizations on how to advance policy. Marquita believes creating a network of people who share common values to ensure children’s needs are being met is vital to making change. One way the Alliance does this is by connecting states with similar policy issues and hosting webinars to bring state and national organizations together. “It is really important we center the lived experience of people,” said Marquita. “Each person, their contribution and their voice matters.” Marquita credited many women with influencing her life, including her mother and Dr. Creshelle Nash. Their mentorship demonstrated leadership, determination and compassion, said Marquita. Aside from her career, Marquita is dedicated to her family. Marquita, an Arkansas native, resides in Little Rock with her husband and daughter. Together, they enjoy traveling and finding the best local gluten-free restaurants.
